We are kicking off our Summer Safety Series this week with a discussion of water safety and drowning prevention.

Summertime for pediatricians is all about injury prevention. We don’t see as many runny noses and ear infections, thankfully.

But with kids outside riding bikes all day or swimming in the pool, there is a lot of opportunity for injury.  But there are practical steps that parents can take to prevent these injuries.

Safety around the water comes down to three key parts.
1) When and How to Use Safety Equipment
2) Preparation for When Someone Gets Hurt
3) Direct and Active Adult Supervision at all Times

We dive into each of these aspects of safety to ensure our kids are staying safe.

In the coming weeks, as part of our Summer Safety Series, we will be discussing:
– Sunscreen and Sunburn Care
and
– Bike Safety and Helmet Use
