This is a difficult diagnosis for families living with someone experiencing it because of the many misconceptions, false beliefs, and poor education that exists around this topic – for medical professionals and patients alike.

So our guest this week is going to help us truly understand ADHD. He shares information that makes it more clear than most other resources you can find on ADHD!

We start by discussing how ADHD is a poor name for this condition, because while Attention challenges and hyperactivity can be clues to ADHD, they don’t describe the underlying cause or provide a framework for treatment.

So we start with a definition of ADHD to frame our discussion and cut to the heart of the underlying problems in a way that empowers parents and kids living with ADHD.

We then discuss:

Other conditions that mimic ADHD: poor sleep, screen time, learning disabilities, and exposure to trauma. We help listeners understand how these pieces fit together?

What type of therapy is needed for ADHD?

What changes can parents make at home to help support their child with ADHD?

How can parents advocate for their kid’s needs at school as it relates to ADHD?

Then we talk about medication.
There is a lot of stress with parents about starting medication for ADHD. It’s also the aspect of treatment that everyone’s uncle has an uninformed opinion about – making it even more difficult for families to make the right choice for their child.
